Preschool Project
Over the past couple of years, we've focused our efforts on building the first Preschool in the district. While guardians are out in the field farming during the day many young children remain at home alone. With your help we have raised money to construct a four-room preschool with modern sanitation and electricity. read more about our preschool project

Grandmother Project
The Grandmother Project: Portraits of Courage and Compassion features photographs of American and Ugandan grandmothers in a traveling exhibition to raise awareness and support for African women who have lost their own adult children to AIDS and are now raising their grandchildren. These courageous grandmothers are overburdened and living in a state of emergency, with inadequate shelter, healthcare, and nutrition. The Stephen Lewis Foundation estimates that the number of AIDS orphans in Africa will approach 20 million by the year 2010.

Maternity Ward
Thanks to contributions from a private donor and the Needham Rotarians, we have been able to build and fully equip a maternity ward, the only in the area, including a midwife. Previously women gave birth at home needing the assistance of their older children. The maternity ward with full time midwife and state-of-the-art equipment, opened in January 2007.

Animal Husbandry
This program provides animals, pigs and goats, to women farmers to help improve income.

Scholars Project
Sponsors here in the U.S. are providing secondary education for older children and teens, something they were never able to have. Forgirlsake is a grassroots movement bringing women together to support and educate girls in need around the world. Thanks to generous donations, seven girls are now attending Buhugu Secondary School in Sironko, Uganda. Whether it be through books or computers, school scholarships or building materials, Forgirlsake strives to make a measurable impact on girls’ lives around the world.

Penpal Project
Through penpal letters to school children in the U.S., these African children have been given the opportunity to develop a friendship as well as learn and improve literacy. Even teachers have become involved!

To find out more about how your school can become involved in a letter-writing program with the children, please contact us.
